My macbook pro survived being drenched with coffee, unfortunately there is a fair amount behind the screen. A large(ish) puddle in the top left hand corner and a weird pattern that looks like it is behind the screen. Is this a straight up replace the screen scenario or is there some method to getting the water away?! Also, if i can change the brightness (with the f1/f2 buttons) im guessing this means the backlight is working
if its a replacement screen, any good cheap uk sites that sell them?

No, it doesn't. It simply extends warranty coverage.

if you spilled liquid in the machine, your warranty is void anyway

Hey, so how do I know for sure that my macbook is fried after a spill? I've been reading a lot and discovered that there are some people who try to plug in the computer right after a spill and it doesn't work, but eventually, after drying, the thing still turns on. (despite making the mistake of plugging it in so soon before)
That's what I did -- I immediately dried off the keyboard and turned the laptop upside down and turned it off. Soon after, I tried plugging in the power cord and the power adapter light was dim and the laptop wouldn't turn on.
After doing research about this, I took out the battery and put it in a box with rice, etc. BUT when I go to turn it on again in a day, how will I know it's done for?

If it doesn't turn on or doesn't work right, you know it's done for.
I spilled tomato juice on the side of my white MacBook and I think a little got into the computer through the firewire wire port..
My laptop was closed when this happened and in sleep mode, but as soon as it happened, the fan went nuts, and started blowing like crazy.
I tried to turn it on after that, but nothing would happen, only the fan would blow.. I removed the battery, and as soon as I'd put it back in the fan would start doing its thing again.. even without being powered.. but no turning on the screen..
I called Apple Support and we reset my computer on the phone, and it still wouldn't start, only the fan.
Now it's been a few hours and a few tries to turn it on, and now even the fan stopped working.
I cleaned the outside of my laptop thoroughly, and the ports too, with dry q-tips.
I am so scared it's ruinned, it's brand new..
I have a appointment at the Apple Store tomorrow to take a look at it.
I am really hoping that it just needs a clean up/dry up or whatever, and no parts were damaged - what do you think?
If it just needs to be cleaned.. how much does that cost?
If it needs to be fixed cause of liquid damage.. same question?
Thanks for the insight!
(btw the computer does power up normally, and the battery was completely untouched by the juice)
Another clutz here.... I managed to spill good 3-4 oz of coffee on my Macbook this morning. I'm always so careful, too... Grrr! Anyway, hubby and I took the thing apart and cleaned it out with q-tips. The spill was on the right side, so thankfully, the ports are ok and most of the motherboard seemed ok, as well. We did see a few wet spots, but mostly on the raised parts; the hard drive had coffee on it, so who knows how much damage there is there...
I read the first 3 pages or so of the thread and after we took the battery and hard drive out, I dumped all the rice I could find on the house ( which wasn't much, thanks to a yummy Mexican rice recipe I discovered last week lol) into a plastic storage box, put a garbage bag on top and set the closed notebook, removed battery and removed HD on top of it. We taped it closed and I plan to leave it alone for 72 hrs(unless smb recommends waiting longer).
I'm beyond bummed, obviously... I can't even imagine what I'll do if it's fried, we do not have the money to replace it now, and I seriously can't live without my Macbook... Ok, of course I can, but it'd be a sad existence so, I can't think this way now and just hope it'll come back to life...
What I'd really like to know is this- where could I get silica? My understanding is that it'd be better for moisture correction than rice. I apologize if it's been addressed before. I'm on the iPhone and it's somewhat limiting to read the entire thread on the phone. Plus, in the interest of time, I wanted to post this, in case there's a way to get silica fast, so I give my little Macbook the best chance for survival.
Sorry for the novel, I hope you have some tips for me
This thread seriously gets me in check everytime I read it!! I make sure that I never have any liquids NEAR my computer, ESPECIALLY when I have friends over.
I also dont eat/drink near my computer and wipe down surfaces before I place my laptop on them.
