MacBook Pro - new unibody macbook pro cracking at hinge

I bought this computer on December 22 and have been SO careful with it. Randomly a couple weeks ago it started splitting at the hinge. It has been getting progressively worse. I'm shipping it back to apple for them to fix tomorrow I'm just curious has anyone else heard of this happening for no reason?

for me maybe in the future.....

thats extreme. i've noticed thats what might happen to mine soon. as you can see from the pics its opened up more on one side of hinge and getting worse. i first noticed when i was using the discreet gpu and it got really hot then a loud crack it happened a few times. i didn't think much of it at first, and didn't know where it was coming from until i looked at the hinge. you think i should send it back to them now?

Replaced by Apple

Hi again! Just wanted to tell you all that I got my display replaced by Apple. They had an internal document on the issue - I believe he called it something about "Display Bezel"...

My fault I'm told...

Since I took the pics of the crack its got a little worse, took it to apple and they say that I dropped it "accidental drop" they've called it. Never been dropped nor leant it to anyone for it to be dropped. They won't fix it. I told them truth about how I was using it in high performance mode and I heard to loud cracks, then noticed the hinge a hew days later. It's still within its guarantee. What do I do?

I think this can be because the air vents are right behind the hinge and the hot air could be weakening the plastic causing the weight of the screen or closing/opening the screen to add just enough force to make it crack. I have noticed my MBP to get very hot almost to where you can't touch it on top of the keyboard right in front of the screen on the left side. I certainly wouldn't use this on any kind of soft surface that would cover the vents as seen in the first pics. Kind of crappy how they blame it on an "accidental drop".

AHAHAHA!! I thought I was the only one. It only happened the first time I opened it though so I thought it was just some ad. Hilarious.

My Macbook is just over a year old and it's been dropped, taken all over the world and was sat on by my 140lb dog....

While the hinge doesn't appear to be as damaged as the one shown earlier, the left quarter of the screen is becoming un-viewable at certain angles. It seems as tho the loose hinge is affecting the screens input and I am getting vertical columns of distortion. Any guesses at repair costs or tips on finding a good repair place
