Right we have all been led to believe that the chipset on a macbook would allow a maximum of 4Gb of Ram - YES
Now Corsair are now selling a 4Gb DDR2 SODIMM specifically for Apple machines "VSA4GSDS667D2" now this device would be absolutely pointless if the maximum ram with the chipset was 4Gb because it costs more than 4 times that of a 2Gb SODIMM. If you could fit one 4Gb in one slot and nothing in the other then it would cost more than twice the price of fitting 2x2Gb and be slower!!! SO the only logical conclusion is that the limit IS NOT 4Gb but 8Gb in which case the maximum RAM in a DDR2 macbook pro is now 8Gb!!! The above ram is DDR2 NOT DDR3 so it is not for the latest model. I have sent an email to Corsair and await their response...... I have read that MacBooks can read 8gb but as soon as the system accesses more than 6gb it freezes. Many people have 6gb running stabley. I just hope the newer models will support 8gb one day. Firmware update please.

Apple DO NOT offer 8Gb on the DDR2 models and never have, only the new DDR3 models.
The OS is not the issue as the new DDR3 model can access 8Gb in Leopard. This is a "leading us astray" issue just like Mac pro variant 1 models cannot access more than 16Gb when they can actually access 32Gb. There has never been a SODIMM this size before so doing this has never been an option...
