I bought a White 13" Macbook Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz about 2 months ago and just the other night I was doing some stuff on iMovie and the battery was down to about 5%. I turned it off and then plugged in the power adapter. When I turned it back on about 15 minutes later, it booted up fine and went to the login screen. I tried to type in my password and then realized that the trackpad cursor was stuck in the top left corner and the keyboard was not working at all (the green caps lock light won't come on when I press it either).

I've tried shutting the lid and reopening it as I've heard that's helped others, but no luck with that. I also turned it off with the power button and then turned it back on, but it was still the same way. I also tried resetting the PRAM two or three times, but no dice with that either.

I tried plugging in a USB mouse and keyboard but they didn't work. Not sure if maybe that was just because they are Dell devices and aren't compatible with my macbook or if it's actually a problem with the macbook.

Any thoughts? I'd really like to get this thing working again.

Do you own an iPhone that you tried to enable DFU mode?

If so you broke the USB driver. I did the same thing on my MacBook

The only thing that solved it was putting in the OS X disk into the drive. After pressing the power button hold down the Alt key to get to the boot menu. Wait until the disk shows up. Dont let go of Alt. Once the CD shows up, let got of Alt and select it.

Wait until it boots up. Select your language.

Then I dont remember what happens but you will be doing some sort of Archive and Install. Look for this option. Thats what you want. It will install a new OS and not delete all of your files. All programs will work like they did and everything will be the same. Your old OS files will be saved in your library.

This should fix it. It did it for me. Nothing else would work.

Hello, Im having the same problem as the other guy. I am very new to mac and Im not sure how this process goes. So I got the the part where to use the installation disk and such. I just can find the option that you were talking about. If you can just explain to me how to do this, it would be much appreciated!

I'll tell you what I remember.

You go to the reinstall of the OS

So, you've selected your language

And then somewhere on the bottom left of the window that opens there should be some sort of place to click where it will bring up a menu with a grey background and there will be some bulleted options. You will select the option to archive and install. Just press next after this and the disk will work its magic. I dont have the specifics but thats the general gist.

This was my exact case! I'm trying it now. I called AppleCare and they said it would take 2 weeks to try and fix, or to erase and install everything.

Thanks!

I have the same problem and none of these suggestions are working. I was wondering if you guys think that I could just walk right into apple and swap it (I'm under 12 month warranty). And if so for a refurbished MacBook Air Maybe?

Wow! I didn't think I would ever find a solution! That's exactly what I was doing before I was prompted to reboot. When it came to the login screen, everything was unresponsive. The weird thing is, though, is that I was able to enable DFU mode successfully before without anything happening. Were you able to enable DFU mode after the fix? [I haven't tried this solution yet as I don't have the OS X disk with me but will try it tomorrow]. Hopefully this works! Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, I have the same problem. I used my MBA to run my iOS devices in DFU mode a while ago. I'm not totally convinced that caused the frozen keyboard and touchpad, but now I can only used my MBA with bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
I wish I could try to 'Archive and reinstall' OS-X snowleopard but I lost my USB install driver. Thankfully, I have optical disc drive for my MBA. Do you think I can download OS-X disc image from torrents on my windows PC, burn an OS-X disc and use the homemade disc to 'Archive and install'?
Or if there's anyone out there had the same problem with me could fix the problem by simply upgrading the OS to Lion ?

Any of your kind comments would be greatly appreciated.
