How do I prevent it? Does keeping it very cool work? Is it preventable?

Logic boards are comprised of solid state parts, not prone to failure. If anything would fail, it would be caused by excessive heat. Your best bet would be to keep the vents clear of debris (use a can of compressed air to blow them out occasionally), and don't keep liquids near the machine.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

the logic board problems were a known issue for some iBooks. Apple extended the warranty to repair them so you might want to check if you are still eligible but i doubt it.

here is the faq from Apple about it.

here is what i did to fix my logic board problem on my iBook. has been working perfectly now for nearly a year.

also i wrote that write up very quickly so please excuse the grammatical errors

hope it helps

Should I just leave my Ibook for home use and leave it on the desktop with a fan and forget about taking it places so I do not brake it?

that would be up to you. i should have mentioned that this is something to do only if you feel comfortable taking things apart.

i have done this to my iBook and another and it worked perfectly but if it doesn't sound like something you want to get into then i wouldn't do it or find a friend that is comfortable with this sort of thing.

when i did it it was because i got the iBook from a friend that didn't want it anymore because of the problems and i had nothing to lose.

however i think the fan is a coincidence and really can't have anything to do with your problem if it is really the logic board problem.

hope you find a solution.

To be honest I don't think there's much in the way of "prevention" you can do. The logic board issue was mostly limited to iBook G3's and it was due to a hardware or manufacturing issue.

Treat your iBook as well as you can and don't block the vents.

Is it all G3s? Mine is an 800 mhz. I am pretty sure the clamshells don;t get it but the 500 mhz plus ones like mine do. Which model is the worst? Also are the fixes "permanent"?
