So after about a month of going back and forth between macbook versions 2.0Ghz and 2.4Ghz (both the 13.3 inch versions), refurbed MBPs, etc, I've decided that I want the 2.4Ghz MB (travel ALL the time and want something powerful and lightweight). I go into the store and begin playing with the one I want, and after some discussion with one of the reps about my purchase, he recommends I wait a few months due to new software thats coming out soon.

Any suggestions? I'm reading about the new iWork and iLife stuff, and I'm thinking he would be referring to that? Or snow leopard? I'm not in a hurry to purchase, but this is probably the biggest enigma of computers. Inevitably, when you purchase technology, it will be outdated within a few months.

If you need the machine now, buy it now. The MacBook was recently upgraded and probably will not see another upgrade for some time. If it's a matter of software, that's a no brainer. You can always purchase new software when it's published. As for "Snow Leopard" (OS X 10.6) we may not see it until later this year. Snow Leopard will be to Leopard, as Windows 7 is to Vista. You figure it out.

Regards.

I need to ask another question... (sorry! I haven't purchased a new computer in years and am writing from my 9.5lb HP notebook from 2001!). I've seen some deals on ebay, usually with lots of bundled software. Can I assume that this "bundled software" means they've been futzing with the mac before its sold? I might not save lots of money though through ebay, I just found out I can get a US Airways employee discount for a new machine...

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I'd be willing to bet the software is either pirated or copied from a master disc and therefore illegal. As bad as eBay has been lately, I'd avoid making a very expensive purchase of anything there.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

I agree with cw107. You would be much better off purchasing a new machine from Apple or you could certainly go with a refurbished unit. Refurbished machines from Apple come with a full warranty.

Apple will always do upgrades no matter what.

You can wait, buy the Macbook then but then 4 months later on, even more software will be released, who knows, even an upgrade on the Macbook itself.

Thanks for your help. I have just spent a whole week without a laptop flying to different cities and have decided I can't really wait another couple of months. I'm going today to get it!
