I just bought my MacBook ONE month ago so it's brand new, the white model. The other day my roommate accidentally spilled a tiny bit of beer (...her first one btw) on the screen and keyboard. We immediately wiped up as much as we could and I flipped it upside down onto a pillow and left it there for the night. The next day when I turned it on, the hardware and computer itself work fine however the LCD screen has little bright white dots only on the left side. This isn't affecting the performance but only the fact that it's the nicest thing I've ever owned and cannot bear to keep it looking this way. Anyone have any suggestions other than the $900 screen replacement? I really appreciate it- I'm a poor college student...

Get a new room mate?
Let the machine alone for awhile and see if the bright spots will go away. What might have happened is some beer may have penetrated into the LCD panel and now the light is being distorted and reflected from the tiny droplets. I'm assuming you've tried to gently clean the outside of the screen in the area of the bright spots making sure they're not external rather than internal? As far as replacing the display, spills are not covered by the Apple warranty. That means it comes out of your wallet. But you can replace the display for less than $900 if you do it yourself or know someone who could do it for you.See the following link for cost and some idea of what replacing it yourself would entail. The price quoted is the LCD panel display for the previous generation of 13" MacBook. Since yours is new, (you didn't mention model) it may use the newer LED backlit display. So expect the cost to be somewhat higher. Regards. |

I'm wondering if it's worth taking the computer apart to attempt to clean behind the LCD screen, or if I'm doomed to replace the screen? Let me know if you had any luck with yours. |
