Good question...

I haven't heard of specific lens cleaners for slot drives...

Exclamation Please help - iBook not booting

Hey, I'm essentially a new Mac owner (have used Macs for a while at my college), and everything was going great with my iBook G4 that I've had for about a week until.....I came home and my iBook won't come on at all, just a black screen - but it was charged, having been left on the charger while I was at school. So I played around with it a bit, got it to show the white screen with the Apple logo and the little loading circle - and then it either freezes up there or a message will pop up that says I need to restart my computer. When I restart, the same issue occurs. I went to disk utility, have repaired everything I can, it says everything is fine, then I restart (or just wait a while) and the same message pops up. I even reformatted the hard-drive with the Mac OSX Tiger disk it came with, everything was fine for a couple of hours until I restarted it, then the same thing happened, and now I can't get it to load. I'm so frustrated. Can someone help? Have any ideas? Should I just take it back to the store? Please help! Thank you. (Have also started a new thread with this post, don't know if I could post new issues in this thread.)

That sounds like the RAM is bad...
Since it's so new, I'd definitely take it back to the store and get them to replace either the RAM or the entire iBook.

Thank you for the great replies. I did take the iBook back to the store, and since it was only a week old, the entire iBook was replaced for me. Hopefully, all will be well now. :mac:

Cheers!

Thanks for the info, but being a new user who hasn't actually received his iBook yet, it makes me wonder. Aren't Macs the hassle free alternative to an IBM PC, never crashing, going wrong etc etc?

My Wife and I have 4 IBM PCs (2 Desks/2 Laptops) that never crash, don't go wrong etc etc. WinXp really is very stable. I hope I'm not jumping from a nice warm hearth into the fire.

Cheers

Generally speaking, Apple's software & hardware is extremely stable & reliable...
But even the best hardware can sometimes act up...

This thread and the problems mentioned here are issues you'll most likely never encounter - remember: People come here specifically to get help with issues they might be having, so it's hardly a accurate representation of your typical iBook / mac experience.

It's like going to the Dell support forums (http://forums.us.dell.com/supportfor...ps_port_genhdw)...oh nevermind...bad analogy ...

I have a perplexing problem that maybe you guys can help me with.

occasionally, while plugged in my iBook will stop charging and switch to battery power. Sometimes, it will not charge at all. I ahve found that if I plug the adapter into the computer before plugging it into the wall, it usually works.

I have done a pram and pmu reset and neither have worked. What the heck is causing this? Does it need to go in for repair?

I'd definitely consider it...

Do you have access to another power supply?

Try it there first and see if it exhibits the same behaviour.
