I would probably go with the new one if it were me. I have a 2.0 macbook and it has been great and everything I have heard about it has been positive in the short time its been out.

I was just going to post a thread similar to this. I am pretty torn--- the black seems like such a deal at 1199 ...I've heard all good things about the machine. However, I still wonder if it would be more beneficial to go with the new model? Any info is appreciated here

I say, go for the older model.

It has been proven to work well, in short-term and long-term. The matte screen is very convenient, because it does not glare as much, making it useful in a sunny and bright environment.

Depending on what you use it for, the graphics may be a large deciding factor. Even though it is not dedicated, the new graphics is a big step from older graphics...that alone may be a $100 value....

But between the two, I would choose the BlackBook, because of that stated above, and I am a fan of the black casing.

Just my $0.02

I think if you are dealing with photos the new Macbook would be the way to go. But its a hard call, the lack of fire wire is kind of disappointing. But overall what do you think? I truly think that it depends on what style you like. Overall you cant go wrong with either of them so just give it some good thought

If you NEED firewire, then the choice is simple. It all depends on the equipment you have (vid camera, etc) and whether or not you are looking to upgrade those (as well as what the options are).

I just got the new MacBook Pro myself and, compared to my 6-year-old Powerbook, the build quality alone is a massive leap forward. I also have some ideas on why Apple did what they did with the ports based on some design changes between then and now. I'm considering doing a more in-depth comparison between the two and posting my thoughts on the matter.

Standing request for all troubleshooting: Please provide your Mac model/year and OS version. Also advise us if you have used or installed any antivirus, security, or "cleaning" software on your Mac. If you have installed MacKeeper in particular, you are hereby advised to uninstall it.

As a rule I try and stay away from any new model of technology for the first 6 months to let the makers work and kinks out of the production process (unless your M$ then its nearer to 6 years - **** Red Ring). I bought a one of the blackbooks about 3 weeks before the new ones came out and it is nothing short of excellence it really is.

However if you are willing to either risk slightly dodgy first revision kit (make sure you get the apple care) I would go for the new one if only for the greater graphics capacity.
