Hi everyone at Mac Forums! Have been looking around and thought I would try and get your guys opinion on which MB I should choose. Have a list of questions

Will I see a big difference between the 2.0 and the 2.4?

I am not so much worried about the hard drive space as I am the speed but is there anything else besides hard drive and processor that is different on the two MB's? Some one talked about back lit keyboard?

How do you guys like your New MB's if you have them?

Also if I got a mac book I was going to get a flat screen display. I was thinking somewhere around 20". I heard the Hp w2207 was very nice for the price. I was thinking something around 200-250 dollars. Any other ideas?

Also I was thinking of grabbing an external hard drive. Thinking the Western Digital 500gb. Any good?

Sorry I know that is a lot to read

Thanks for any help!

Well the 2.0 doesn't have a backlit keyboard while the 2.4 one does. That's pretty much the only difference between the two besides the CPU speed.

You can easily buy a new HDD that is faster and has more space than the ones that apple offers. The only thing is that you need to backup the HDD and install it yourself.

I'm getting this monitor, after I sell some stuff.

I doubt you will really notice the speed of the CPU unless you are doing video encoding, or doing 3D renderings. Might shave off like 30 minutes or something like that. >_>

Drop the money for the better processor and the backlit keyboard if you will keep it for at least 2 years. You can always upgrade the memory and hard drive later, but the processor is soldered to the motherboard and the backlit keyboard is a must.

Ya. I am leaning toward the 2.4Ghz model. Just going to take me a little longer to get. But I think it will be worth it.

2.4, look at preliminary benchmarks between the 2.0 and the 2.4, the 2.4 completely out performs the 2.0 in a surprising way. It was the sole reason I purchased the 2.4, the back lit keyboard is nice but the performance was why I was upgrading so getting the 2.0 made no sense.

this is the benchmark I was referring to.

300 bucks you get a noticeable difference in performance, plus the back lit keyboard.

I have a western digital my passport as an external hard drive, it is awesome 160, 250, 320 GB sizes, great price, and AMAZING size, no external power required.

I don't use an external display but if I did it would be the apple 24 inch one that pretty much turns this into a desktop with three simple connections. I wouldn't pay more than 450 for it though and it retails for 850 or so... I won't be getting one any time soon.

I love my new MB. The build quality is amazing, there are a few quirks I have noticed with mine, mainly a track pad that does not always like to wake up and work right away and an ambient light sensor that seems to over adjust a bit too much.

Otherwise, performance is excellent, glossy screen is a bit much for me, but the thing is just rock solid. Love it.
