Why did Apple switch to the FireWire 800 in their new MacBooks? Does it serve any purpose other than to make everyone switch cords and stuff? It's so annoying.

tjbackstage is an unknown at this point
Mac Specs: aluminum MacBook: 2.4GHZ Core 2 Duo, 3GB DDR3 RAM, NVIDEA GeForce 9400M, 250 GB HDD (32GB for Vista)

I don't know. You can just get an adapter for $5 with FW400 female and FW800 male. As simple as that! FW800 increases the speed by double, so I'd assume they did this just to make the computers go even faster than they did before. I think that it's dumb though that they removed FireWire on the MacBooks and didn't even add an expansion slot to add a FW card or anything.

Notebook: aluminum MacBook (2.4 GHZ Core 2 Duo, 3 GB RAM, 250GB HDD, 32GB partition for Vista Home Premium, Ubuntu Linux 8.10 running in VMWare Fusion 2)
iPod: 16GB iPod Touch (2nd generation), 8GB iPod Nano (3rd generation)
