iBook - ibook G3 700 Backlight issues

Now I know this is not uncommon but I think I have a unique problem. I was given this laptop and everything works except the backlight (there is stuff on the display but no backlight).
I did get the backlight to work sometimes. I had to push around the apple logo using my left hand on that side of the screen. Then it worked and lit up, but if the pressure is released then it would go dark again. Also, If angled towards the keyboard at about a 50-60 degree angle the backlight stays on without any pressure required.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Probably a loose socket connection to the backlight or the backlight assembly. If you have the ability to take apart a computer LCD display, you can most likely repair it or just replace the entire backlight assembly while it's apart.

Go to iFixit: iPod, iBook, & PowerBook Parts and Accessories and look up your model G3. Then find the steps which show how to remove and replace the LCD assembly and\or the backlight. On some machines (not sure about the G3) the entire LCD has to be removed before the backlight can be accessed.

It might be a good idea if you're going to remove the LCD to get at the backlight, to just go ahead and replace the backlight with a new one.

Regards.

I have looked on iFixit and they show how to get to removing the entire display, but not how to get to taking apart the LCD itself. Any ideas where else may have these instructions? I have taken the white plastic back of the LCD off already but need further instruction for taking the metal off the LCD back and finding the cable for the backlight.

Thanks
