MacBook - Macbook battery life, XP vs. OSX

I will be purchasing a macbook very soon and I have heard conflicting reports on how the macbook battery life fairs.

One review website mentioned that the macbook would last longer on XP because windows clocks the processor down more, however other people mention that OSX has some things to conserve power that XP doesnt.

Which is it? And how much longer would the better of the two last?
