Hello every one,
Okay so I always use AirPort to connect to the internet, to my broadband router specifically. The problem I am facing nowadays is that whenever I close the screen of my computer, close the lid, the laptop disconnects from the internet immediately, when ever I am going out, I like to keep my MBP on to download some huge size files, so when I get back they are done, but I found out that when ever I close the lid, it disconnects from the internet. Is there any way to prevent this? I don't like keeping my screen opened, the only way I am using is decreasing the contrast/brightness of the screen so it'd be all dark as if the computer is not even working, but that way is really boring. So I'd be thankful and grateful to any one who could help me out in this. Thank you very much and terribly sorry for wasting your time. Yours Sincerely, Tarek. |

When you shut the lid it goes to sleep, so yes, it disconnects from the network.
There are applications out there like InsomniaX that will let you force it to run while it's closed but I wouldn't recommend it. |

Sleep is like a Windows PC on Standby I guess - everything in the RAM is written to the hard drive, so when you want to come back and work again it picks up where you left off without too much messing about or waiting. It's not actually doing much of anything, so all the processes stop, including the network connections and applications - more like suspended animation.
When you think about it, it's fairly logical to have a computer go to sleep when you shut the screen - you're not looking at it, so not likely to be using it. I wouldn't recommend it because you're MacBook will lose heat through the keyboard and the vents by the hinge. Personally, I wouldn't want to run the risk of it all getting a bit hot. Naturally, if it does overheat it would probably shut itself down, so I guess it's not a major concern for some. Also, putting a laptop that is running in a bag or a case is generally a bad idea. Anyway, I download a lot of stuff and just leave the thing open, or at least partially open. It's up to you really! Loads of people use InsomniaX without issue, it's just that I personally wouldn't. |

Alright man. Thank you so much for helping me out. By the way, I don't know why when I bought it from BestBuy, in its box and everything, for about $3000, the remote did not come in it. You know, the remote that is used for Front Raw and stuff. Anyhow I'll be in New York in 15 to 17 days time, I'll hopefully buy lots of accessories for it; I might even buy a new White MacBook for my sisters, but from Apple store this time. Since my dad did not know where it was lol.

Don't worry man, it's alright. At least you got the remote, want to trade? Haha, just kidding. Any how, if you really want a new '08 MBP, you could always exchange your MacBook with one and pay the difference, or sell your MB plus add money then go buy a brand new MBP. There are always solutions to everything except ONE, death. Rofl now I sound like a devout.
