Hello I currently own a iMAC 2Ghz G5 512MB DDR SDRAM and now I want to purchase a portable computer with absolute balls but not power that I don't need. I own a record store and want to use it to convert vinyl to digital format and burn c.d.'s and dvd's. I also want to use it as my juke box and I also sell items on e-bay to sum it up (multiple windows open). I hate to wait for the beach ball to stop spinning! Someone suggest me what hardware to look at. Also suggest external storage solution. I want a machine that smokes but not wasted power. Also How much of a difference is the smaller screen 15" to the 17" two inches right no what I mean does it really make a difference in the veiwing. thanx

I personally own the 2.4 MBP and its everything i could have expected it to be and more. I have never even worried about if i had too many programs running because the computer has not so much as even hiccuped for a second. Im a DJ and use intensive software and i was able to anaylize my my whole itunes library while having ichat open surfing the web and importing photos with iphoto! The thing is a beast!

Trust me going from you current machine to the 2.4 MB or MBP you will be blown away.

As far as screen size goes, as far as im concerned the only difference in the size is a negative in my opinion. 17 inch laptops are not "portable" at all, they are extremely heavy, cumbersome to carry around and it doesn't "fit" in areas where you could just bust out a 15 inch and put it on a table. But if you just sit at home with you laptop then that may not matter as much to you.

The MBP does indeed have balls (I too am on one right now). The MB, however, may have just the right amount for you. My spouse does all the things you do on a 2.4 MB and he's happy as a clam. They're pretty cheap in the refurb store right now, too ($1099).
