mac help doesn't open

A Newbie which has just joined this forum with hopes someone might help me solve a few probs.One at a time.Todays prob is my "mac help" stubbornly refuses to open.With other applications it opens but will only search in that particular program.Any suggestions as to how i can fix this.Many thanks
