MacBook - Macbook administrator?

Ok, so I am the administrator of my macbook and I'm having problems with my administrator password and user name.  When I'm logging into my account it says that it is correct, and yet when I want to change settings and it requires my administrator name and password, it claims that either my administrator name is incorrect or my password is. Anyone have any ideas?
