iBook - help! beeps on startup

Hey folks, wondered if anyone could help me out, I have an ibook G4, and for the past week I cant get it to start up. It beeps 3 or 4 times when I press the power button and the sleep light slowly flashes. I can hear the fan starting but after that nothing happens.

Any help would be great thanks!

J

That is the sound of the POST test reporting a dead ram chip. Pop the chip out and pray that the removable chip is the bad one. If it is the built in mobo chip your iBook is in a world of hurt.

unfortunately it must be the built in ram, as I have never added any ram to it. Is there any way of getting files etc from the hard drive?

Thanks for the help btw! much appreciated

skaheadpunk has a spectacular aura about
Mac Specs: MacBook, iPod Classic, 8GB 3G iPhone, Time Capsule
It might work in target disk mode with another mac, or you could put your HDD in an enclosure and access it like an external from another computer.
