I have a similar problem with my macbook pro. It reads DVDs just fine. I will read burnt CDs with photos or data on them. It will not read music CDs at all, or software CDs... eg Canon camera software. This leads me to conclude that the drive hardware is OK... what's happening?

there seem to be issues with the drives...i had similar problem...dvds read most of the time, cds were ejected most of the time...& burning cds or dvds gave me an error right after it started...i went to the apple guys & they said they will replace the drive...hope things will be better with that one

invaderbakth and cartmansailing,

I don't know what your warranty or Apple Care situation is, but if it's active, I would call Apple or take your machine to an Apple shop like rohan did, where a determination can be made as to your hardware status... Sounds to me like you need a new drive, or at least repair work...

yeah...they aren't too fussy either...my laptop was bought in the usa & im in india now...as long as u have warranty you are covered...even otherwise they would fix/replace it im sure...but then you would have to pay...
