PowerBook - a few questions

I am buying a powerbook g4 and I have a couple of questions. 1: Do I need to install os 9 on it?(I doubt it but I just want to be sure) 2: Would a powerbook be an okay laptop? 3: Would buying a powerbook be a bad idea?

What speed powerbook are we talking about and at what price?

The Macbook (although limited in screen resolution compared to the last Powerbook G4) is much faster on almost all aspects, and can be had for as little as $600-700 if you shop around.
