powerbook has beef with airport card

g4 powerbook 800
10.3.something

ok, fresh load of 10.3. all updates have been run. tried 2 different airport cards. neither reconised. pulled both cards and installed one i know works into the slide in pcmcia slot. nothing. am i screwed? is there some secret widget i need to fondle to make something happen? cheers!

software is included with 10.3. also did all airport updates from apple.
