In the last 4 weeks or so, I've been having issues with my computer coming out of sleep mode.
When I open it, the computer itself wakes up and functions normally: I can play music, turn my volume up and down, etc. However, my screen doesn't respond. I just see a black screen. The only thing I've been able to come up with is my 'brute force' technique of doing a hard shutdown and restarting, which I know is not good for my computer, and I lose all information in programs that I had opened.
Has anyone else experienced this, and do you have any ideas for a fix?

Ive been having the same problem with my MBP. And the same with my brother. He also has a MBP. Ive called apple about it. You can reset the power management chip, these seems to temporarily relieve the problem.

do you have istat pro installed? If so, update it. I heard older versions of istat caused issues like the ones you are having.

I've had this happen a few times... wake up from sleep and I get the password screen. Enter my account password, then the screen goes black, but has a mouse pointer. I can hear things happening (like emails coming in), but can't get the desktop.

The only solution I've found is to close the screen for a few seconds, then open it again.

Definitely seems like a bug somewhere.

The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I don't want to have to walk over there to do it."

This may sound ignorant, but what is iStat? I do not have that installed.
I visited the Apple Store in Portland. They said this is an issue a few computers have had, but it hasn't been frequent enough to really diagnose. And of course, I couldn't get my computer to recreate the problem when I was there, just the next day when I got home...
Anyway, I suppose I'll just keep this post updated if Apple gets back to me with a possible cause and/or solution.
QUOTE Thanks
