MacBook Pro - I messed up my "P" key

Hi everyone,

I'm a "somewhat recent" switcher, just got my first Mac -- a MacBook Pro -- in November '07.

As my luck would have it, my "P" key popped off one day as I was typing. I attempted to reattach it and, in the process, managed to break off the little rubber spring, or "nipple"... I'm not really sure what to call it.

Needless to say, the "P" is unusable now. (I'm typing this from an external keyboard.)

My question is, if I were to take my MBP to a Genius, would they be able to fix this, and furthermore, would I be covered by the warranty, given that I messed this up myself?

Thanks in advance,

- OS

Thanks for replying, Noel.

Unfortunately, I don't think this would fix my problem. The part that has been damaged on my MBP isn't the scissor mechanism of the two plastic parts, but rather the rubber nub that is in the middle, which I think is the actual thing that registers a key stroke.

I ended up taking it to the Apple store. They agreed to replace the whole keyboard. It'll be ready next week, they said.

I'm just wondering, do they use new or refurbished parts when they do replacements such as this? Even if they DO use refurbs, I'm sure they're inspected and work just as well right?

probably are ALL labeled refurbished parts.

in any case, they probably dont test them, just install them, and let you, the user test them. Much less time wasted by them in that case.

theyll replace the keyboard, with a refurb, which is probably new.
