My PowerBook G4 has now just hit 3 and a half years old. Yes it's starting to get on a bit.

The fan noise is getting pretty bad. When it's running in idle or doing something not to processor hungry it's fine, no complaints but when you do something so much as to use a bit of processor like watch youtube the second fan kicks and it sounds like a very angry bee is trying to escape from my mac. It's like one of the fins has come lose and is tapping against the fan case or something. It's a very disconcerting noise. How can I get it fixed and stay on good terms with my bank manager?

My other question is, is there anyway to see what's running and how much processor that application is using?

Cheers,

Drew

£25, interesting. Is it possible to fit this myself quite easily or would you recommend taking it to a mac shop? I'm pretty hands on when it comes to stuff like this but I don't want to wreck my computer!

It's defiantly the left fan that's causing the problem? Not the right one. I've just had a look at how to get the right one out and it looks petrifying!

It could be either, or both. Can you tell which side of the computer the noise is coming from? Perhaps it can be run with the cover off so that you can tell the source of the noise.
