iMac fan speed ??

I have an iMac late 06, 2.16Ghz. I am running istat on my dashboard and it shows temps and fan speeds. I guess the good news is that I can't really hear the fan too much, but it seems that the CPU is running hot. Do the fans automatically adjust speed based on temp? If not, is there a way to adjust them. I know that the cooler the machine the more efficient it runs.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi, how hot is "hot"? Could you post the fan speeds and temps please? Modern CPUs tend to run hot anyway, so you may running at quite a normal temp.

under load my CPU is @ about 125-130* F, id like to see it when i begin photoshopping again. ive never seen the CPU fan go above 1200rpm, maybe i haven't really looked for it either.

side note: how do i make istat run on my desktop 24/7??

The CPU was about 140 with a fan speed around 1000. That was this afternoon. Now it is much cooler at 103 and 799 rpm. It seemed as though 140 was pretty hot.

My MBP has been on all day. Currently watching TV, e-mailing, and talking to you lot. 168 degrees fan 1057 rpm. When doing intensive stuff - photo editing and burning DVD's I have seen this scoot up nquite a bit and the fans you can hear working hard.

Download SMC fan control.... its free.

It seems like my CPU fan and Hard Disk fan are running at 1199rpm almost all the time. Is this bad?

I work in electronics guys, most 65nm or 45nm processed ICs are good for about 70-85 degrees C, don't sweat it if you hit the 50s or 60s. The hottest my processor in my iMac Penny gets is about 48C and usually gets that way after running a 12 track garageband song with lots of Midi, the GPU after playing a game is around 65C.
