iMac - Second Display issues

Mac Specs: iMac 20", 2.4 ghz, 4gb RAM, 500gb HD + IEEE 1394b 500gb external

I am running Final Cut on my iMac and recently hooked up a second display (vga) for viewing my sequence. But when I try to play video the audio plays fine but the video loops 2 seconds over and over until the end of the clip. has anyone had\does anyone know how to fix, this problem thanks
