HI there,

i know this question may be a little old school for many of the users on the forum but here it is...

i recently aquired a desktop Poermac that looks like this...

http://weblog.ceicher.com/archives/yosemite.jpg

except it doesn't have the faded 'G3' written on the side.

I was under the impression that G4 looked like this...

but i see G4 models that look like mine, just not in my green and transparent colour scheme.

Thanks for any help.

Jim.

Here is the rundown on those G3/G4 towers:

As you already know, the above is a Power Mac G3 (B/W) which came out in Jan 1999. (see image below)

Between the end of 1999 and up until Jan 2002, there were 4 Power Mac G4 towers released which were identical on the outside (see image below):
  • Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics).
  • Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics).
  • Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet).
  • Power Mac G4 (Digital Audio).

July 2001 and up until Aug 2002, saw the release of 3 similar looking Power Mac G4s (see image below):
  • The QuickSilver
  • The QuickSilver 2002
  • The QuickSilver 2002ED

Finally, between Aug 2002 and June 2003 Apple released 3 similar upgrades to the previous model. These Power Mac G4s were called the:
  • Mirrored Drive Doors Model
  • The FW 800 (fireWire) Model
  • Mirrored Drive Doors 2003 Model

So that's that. As you can see your G3 is the last in its line before the introduction of the G4.

I can understand your slight confusion as they do all look similar. I Hope this helps to answer your question.
QUOTE Thanks
