I have a first generation G5 iMac. I was working one day with my iTunes going and all of the sudden a loud feedback sound came through my speakers like a stereo speaker being unplugged with the volume cranked. My volume was on low. Nothing seemed to be wrong with my system and everything was performing normally after. I wouldn't normally be concern with something like that but my MAC has been acting a little funny lately. I checked the console and here is what it said in the error log.

Sep 18 16:40:36 Scotts-iMac-G5 launchproxy[909]: /usr/sbin/smbd: getnameinfo(): Non-recoverable failure in name resolution

Any ideas anyone?

I have no idea what caused the sound to begin with, but I do know that smbd is a daemon that allows you to share files and printers with Windows-based computers. The error is nothing major to worry about.

Just cross your fingers and hope it doesn't happen again maybe?
