Hi. I got my mac pro a few days ago. Everything is stock except it has 2 3.0 ghz quad cores and an ati x1900 gpu. I have ordered 8 gbs of kingston ram, (2x 4 gb sets, using 2 gb modules) and will be getting it installed in a couple days. Just thought I would share the news with other forum users as this site helped me with my purchase decision. I am very pleased with my purchase thus far. (I have never been happier about being broke! lol) It is primarily for video editing and music production. I can finally work instead of screwing around with pc/windows crap.
There is only one oddity I have found: When I boot up the machine and sometimes during a brief interlude of the mac version of "Quake 4" I see a strange flicker at the bottom of my screen. Like a flickering stripe about an inch wide. This concerns me. I tried tweaking the monitor settings, but it didn't seem to do anything. Aside from that, all is well. This should be a pretty smoking editing machine eh? I hope it stands up to new camera technology for the next 3-4 years. Thanks. |

I have the same system you have. I have not seen any thing like you descripted. I have not played any games, so I can not say if it is a software or hardware problem.

Probably the video card. It doesn't sound like a serious issue, though... just as long as it doesn't happen often. If it becomes bothersome, take it to an Apple Store and show them. You should be able to get it fixed for free since it is under warranty. Lugging it into the Apple Store is a pain, though. Don't forget to sign up to talk to their so-called geniuses. If you don't sign up at the computer station first that's in the store, they won't even talk to you, even if nobody is ahead of you in line.
