I need to master a 30 minute film to DVD it weighs in around 7Gb. is it possible to burn a dual layer DVD on the MacBook Pro 1,1?
I know that the MBP 2 does but I seem to recall reading somewhere that Apple sacrificed this option on the original MBP 1.

Any help in this matter would be much appreciated.

The Core Duo MacBook Pros don't have a dual-layer Superdrive. That feature was introduced with the Core 2 Duo machines. If you need that capability on an original MacBook Pro, you'll need to buy an external DVD burner.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

Thanks for your speedy reply. I thought that might be the case.
This may sound stupid but I have another Mac:

Machine Name: PowerBook G4 17"
Machine Model: PowerBook5,1
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 167 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.6.2f1
Serial Number: V73180LAMVZ

Do you know if this will dual layer DVD?
Thank you again.
Chriss

I don't know for sure, but I would say it's unlikely, given that the feature was just introduced in the Core 2 Duo machines, which are at least 2 years newer than that unit.

There's only one way to find out for sure - do you have a dual-layer disc that you can just pop in and try to burn? If it doesn't have the capability, it will tell you as much.

What I don't understand is that... after being compressed for DVD (which has to be done,) how is it that your 30 minute movie is still 7GB? You shouldn't need a dual layer DVD...
