So here's a question for anyone. I have a 1.6 GHz iMac G5 and I wanted to add more storage space to it. Instead of buying a new 500GB SATA drive could I just mod the case of the iMac and plug a SATA cable into the motherboard and then plug the other end into a SATA port multiplier and then plug in 5 extra drives? Would the SATA controller on the iMac recognize the 5 other SATA drives plugged into the port multiplier? Then I would just use one of those disks as a boot disk or just plug in the old one on one of the 5 ports.

Yeah, if you're brave. The iMac G5 you have was one of the easier to upgrade iMacs.

I figured you could just take a dremel to the case and make a small opening for the SATA cable to come out of. The drives would definitely run a lot cooler than they do in the case if the temp readings I am getting from istat are correct. A nice way to have a computer that looks good with a decent amount of powe and a lot of storage if you cant afford a mac pro
