iMac - A snoozing imac question.

When my imac (C2D) is asleep, what does the little light mean. I know it means it's there to say my mac is still on but asleep. But what is the difference between the light on always (a solid light) and the light flashing? What does each say the mac is doing or has done?

glowing = asleep
off = "awake"
dimmed = "screen sleeping"
