Since my primary computer is now a powermac g4 i was thinking of ways to revive my old iMac g3 400. I was thinking about clearing most of the files off to make room for music, get some nice speakers and turn it into a jukebox.

I'd like to hear other ideas though, before I do anything. Post on.

If the hardrive on the G3 400 is large enough you could use it as a backup server maybe. Just incase your newer G4 has any problems. Would Time Machine from OS 10.5 work with an old mac as the external hard drive?

Give it to someone who wants to learn what OS X is and how to use it.

If you have a 2nd home. A place you spend a lot of time in away from your normal home. You cound set up the old imac there. As it's still plenty capable to to most of the basic tasks and some of the complicated ones too that most people would do everyday with their machines.

You could always pull apart the G3 and fiddle with the bits for fun and learn about circutry. If you know nothing about the subject in the first place. But that'd kinda render the G3 not working anymore.

If you're or someone you know is a collector of old macs it'd really make a fine addition to the collection.

Of you're ok with a really large doorstop it'd work for that as well.

Sell it. As a whole machine or as spare parts. But since it's a G3 it's not worth much.

When you really don't want it anymore and if you can't sell it then you can always take it to the shooting range for a little target practice. Hmmm, a sledgehammer would also be a stress relief. I admit not as much as a destroying a PC, but still.

Another alternative if it dies is to give it to the people who recycle electronic garbage and they could turn it into something else.

If I can think of anything else I'll let you know. I'm out of ideas for now.

Hey there! I turned mine into a TV/DVD/Music/Picture player/viewer. It's quite the awesome machine! If you're in to reviving old macs, check out www.fastmac.com. They have an imac g3 slot load processor upgrade. It'll upgrade you to a G4 550Mhz. Pretty awesome stuff. I also installed ubuntu on mine to learn some linux. With the G4 upgrade, you also have a wide selection of tv tuners to choose from. Hope you have fun!

Trent out

I have to admit, taking a sledgehammer to a poor little iMac is just heartless... I'd turn it into a jukebox, My extra iMac (350mhz) is my server for all my files, just incase I have a glitch with the other one. I send all my files I make to the 350-from the 500 DV SE!

Also, if it dies, give it to a local school, those high school students are always looking for computer components to use in their Technology classes...

I volunteer too, because I have a PC now probably 8 years old, or more, and I wanna start with the iMac to get a bright future for my artist / music career,

so if you have any interest to give it to me, or if you have a nice price, you can find me on my PM inbox anyhow
