Try manually repairing permissions: close all apps and log totally off. Log on, go in Finder, Applications. Utilities, Disk Utility. After the message -getting disk information- select volume (below the hard drive name -upper left corner). Just highlight it. Now look to the lower two things are there near the middle, verify permissions, repair permissions. Click repair permissions

However, therein lies another problem, as I recently tried to do just this. OS X 10.3.3 doesn't allow the latest systemworks to boot into the cd, due to some programming differences. so you have 2 options. 1) call symantec and ask them to send you the updated systemworks 3.0.1. It's free and they sent it to me within 3 days. 2) if you have a second mac NOT running OS X 10.3.3, you can connect the two via firewire, restart the mac you have the problem with and hold the T key when you hear the chime, effectively mounting that harddrive onto your second mac. Then you can use your second mac (no need to boot into any cd here) to run disk doctor on your sick computer. |
