actual screen dimensions

hi gang! this is my first post after a long stint of lurking. i have searched high and low for the actual dimensions of the imac screen(s) and can't seem to uncover that info anywhere.

i'm looking specifically for the height and width of the 17" imac and the 20" imac screens. i know the pythagorean theorum could be useful here, but i only know the length of the hypotenuse so a2+b2 =c2 doesn't do me much good.

any help would be much appreciated as i am about to pull the trigger on my switch VERY soon. good bye windows!

hi there and welcome.

i have just measured mine and it is

across - 36.5 cm

diagonal obviously 17"

and up - 23cm

20in diag

17in across
10 3/4in up

you actually can use pythagorean theorm, you know the diag, and the aspect ratio of 16:10, just a little more math.

i certainly appreciate it guys. actually, i was unaware of the exact aspect ratio.

now, if you can just make up my mind for me as to which one to get...

Get the 20".

I have had both, now currently have the 17".... it's just too claustrophobic with the 17"

i have the 17" and i find it fine.

20" just would look too big on my desk (normal size desk)

plug budget

my say - get the 17" and spend the spare money that you didnt spend getting a bigger screen on RAM. !

Get what you can comfortably afford, but don't be afraid to go for the 17"- it's what I have, and I'm doing just fine.
