Dear Forum,
I never thought that this would happen to me, but....(kidding). Seriously, though... To make work easier, I bought a matching Mac for my home. Loved OS9, loved OSX2, looking forward to Panther. Bought the Panther upgrade for my home, no problems installing. I take it to work to wow my coworkers and after clicking on the "restart" button to begin the installation process, the Mac restarts, then the screen flashes and goes batty (horizontal lines running 1/8" apart distorting the whole picture making EVERYTHING illegible). These 2 Macs are identical. Only the monitor is different. Specs: Dual 1.42 G4 2 GB RAM HELP!!! |

I'm not sure but a do over may be needed. Did you reset the PRAM inside (usually near the RAM cards)? careful to touch the metal chassis to discharge static And possibly a file system check, boot into single user mode and restart hold command S after the tone and type /sbin/fsck -fy
-repeat until *****FILE SYSTEM CHANGED**** doesn't show Last edited by witeshark; 04-15-2004 at 09:15 PM. |

You may have a monitor that won't sync with the Panther install. I've heard that you can fool the install by unplugging your monitor until after you think that the system has booted and then plugging it back in.
I've got a Samsung SysncMaster 955df that will display ok during an install, but my Sony Multiscan 17dfII won't. Good Luck. |

I tried target mode (which oddly didn't work, but it was my 1st time to try, so I probably did it wrong). But come to find out, it WAS the monitor. I had to pull the Mac back home to install Panther, and now my coworkers are VERY envious. Special kudos go out to immdb (even though I did this over the weekend. Where were you before? kidding.) Happy Mac-ing. seacrest out. |
