See, we have about 50 G5's at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh as of this month. Now you might say this is awesome, and great, and wonderful...and you'd be right, and are in some sense.....however....my school does some stupid stuff.....like buying only the 1.6 G5 w/ only 256 mb ram in them...the dual G4 have twice that...my computer has three times that...plus they have them packed with the FXgo 5200 32mb video card. They just went cheap on us...and it's really annoying..and upsetting...they're still amazing computers...and they all have superdrives...but damn...what's up with that?...I'm just hoping they'll eventually upgrade the ram......you have to take full advantage of a machine like that.....

IMO the bare and I mean bare minimum ram you should put into a G5 is 512mb. If it was me i would start at 1gb

Don't forget to use the new User Reputation System

.according to many the 1.6 and even the 1.8 is just about the same as the dual 1.42 g4s maybe not in proper tests but to the normal user. it sucks they did that.they should of bought half as many and went all out.if i have a g5 it would be 2gb of ram no less and maybe more.how big are the HDs.art schools like that should be able to afford it guess not. maybe there going to by everyone minis so they are saving there money.... well we can hope.

Hehe. Saving there money! Right! There spending in on mercedies and rolex. That other ram'll come in like half a year...and by then, the G5 will be fried...cause students will be abusing them....and they won't have enough memmory to deal with the constant abuse (never shutting down programs, treating the machines like poo). You figure a school that has so many computers...and even a basic computer learning class...could show people how to shutdown programs, and log off the computers. these beautiful G5 machines will be ruined....I am afraid..but hopefully there really won't be ruined, and they'll add more memmory before I graduate...so I can use them to their fullest potential, or at least closer to.

They do the same thing in the Apple store... all the powerbooks had 256, now they have 512. I have not seen any crashes though

I'm at the Art Institute in Atlanta, and ya they're stupid as hell. We've got dual G4's with a gig of ram for editing, but the people in web design have Dual G5 2.0's with 512ram...

They're pretty smart.

Happy thing happened today. I went into the G5 lab that was locked the first time I treid to go to it, and they did this one better. 25 dual 1.8 w/ 512mb ram. I would still hope for more ram, but that's the least anyone should ever have....they fly those G5s, they really fly.

Crash after crash. One wormapalooza after another. Patches service packs! sheesh! What does it take? Why not at least try a Linux, maybe a live CD like MandrakeMove, Knoppix or Debian Mepis Linux if changing the box out is such a problem...

What is a middle school doing with such a powerful machine? I mean instead of going all out on that ONE G5, they could have at least gotten a few middle end ones....What's in peoples head these days?
