It seems I have a Maxtor 500GB Sata II 3gbs drive installed in my MacPro.

Don't ask how I wound up with the drive, it's a long story.

Anyhoo- The Pro does,t recognize the drive and I get that message when I boot the computer. I can't find a way to repair it, format it or what ever I need to do to make it recognized. The options just aren't available (highlighted) for that drive like it is for my boot drive and my external laCie.

Can it be that it's just not be compatible or able to be reformated for the Mac. That seems hard to believe, although the box does not list it as being Mac compatiable. All of the software with it is for Windows.

Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

Steve

Is this drive meant to be a bootable one? Does it show up in Disc Utility?

Thanks for the replys.

My unfamilararity with Mac OS X is my major problem.

I went back into disk utilities and yes it always had shown there, clicked on the partition tab followed the steps to create a simple one partition drive and it worked perfectly. I eventually want to set up a three or four drive raid. I'm going to create a new thread to ask for opinions and suggestions.

This is what a happens to a PC user when he tries to work on his new Mac Pro.

Thanks for the help.
