My gf has an old G3 iMac: 600mhz, 512MB RAM, 40GBHD currently running OS 9.2.2... can I install OSX 10.4.2 Tiger on it from the discs that came with my G4 iBook?... or will it just be too much for the G3 and cause 'meltdown'?! Thanks

I think that you just must upgrade the firmware, (support.apple.com) and buy a new copy of tiger. the ibook g4 disks will mess up the g3 because they are the wrong type of disksMac Pro (Early 2009) 8 Core 2.26 GHz, 6 GB Ram, 640 GB Drive. Dell 2408WFP.

OS X Tiger will work fine, but I suspect the iBook CD won't work. You need the non Mac specific OS X CD.
And update the firmware first.
