Hi everyone. I'm an old PC user, and a new Mac user. I have my first Mac, a Mac Pro. I'm slowly getting used to it, and so far I like it a lot.

Question: Why won't it stay in Sleep mode? I click Sleep, and it shuts down. But, it starts right up again in about 3 seconds. I'm not moving the mouse or anything like that. When it times out into Sleep mode, it stays asleep for quite a while. But, it does wake itself up every so often for no apparent reason. Is this normal behavior?

Well, I'm still exploring the bundled software, trying to learn the vocabulary, and figuring out the file/folder system. What fun!

Thanks for reading this.

George

Do you have any other peripherals plugged in?
My macbook will keep on waking if my USB TV tuner is plugged in...

OK, Sleep problem solved!

Aptmunich was right. It turned out to be an innocuous little USB SanDisk ImageMate CF card reader, model SDDR-92.

As soon as I removed that card reader the Sleep function worked 100% of the time. The Mac Pro goes to Sleep on command, and stays asleep until I intentionally wake it up.

Thank you Aptmunich!
