For those that own iMac's, specifically Intel 20", when its completely off(not sleep mode), I hear a faint high pitched whine in the back of the display. I'm assuming this is normal?

Doesnt sound too normal but mines pretty much always in sleep, the fan used to go crazy but not when switched off.

I'll give mac a call tomorrow, see what they have to say about it. But I've noticed this in a completely quiet environment and my ear was right next to the back of the display only, so it was very faint. I wonder if its bluetooth/wifi interference.

Who's mac?, I sure hope he can help you out... :p, J/k

Seriously, if your computer is turned off and is still making noises, that is not normal. Give Apple a call or take it in and see if they can replicate it. Let us know how it goes.

Same thing used to happen to me. Apple.com says it is normal:

SMPS often make this noise.. Apple article just gives the laymans version of what's going on, if its excessive then the power supply may have a problem:

Hissing or white noise - possibly from inductors - this may be normal under certain conditions:

Well I just got off the phone with "Apple" Says its normal, as long as its not excessively loud and unbearing. I told him the situation and he said its most likely due to other interference and not the iMac itself. It doesn't affect anything else so I'm sane with it. Thanks for all replies guys.
