What about SOUND on the Mac Pro ?

How would one get 5.1 digital surround out of this thing, given the fact that all the slots in there are for video cards????

the slots aren't video only. You can put any PCI express card in them. Also, there is optical audio out of the back for digital audio.

As avcabob stated, you use the built in Optical output for 5.1.

Ahh, I see. Thanks. So you can put PCI Express "cards" in there that aren't video cards. I don't think many audio card manufacturers have caught up with PCI Express.

Ok, so I'll need to ditch my current 5.1 speakers (Cambridge Soundworks Megaworks 510D) and get some with an optical input, when I get the Mac Pro.

I noticed some people on the Apple forums already have a Mac Pro. Guess we'll be needing a Mac Pro section here soon!

Or you can use an external audio soundcard such as Griffin's Firewave:
