Am considering switching to mac for my home computer. My home's Gateway with Window's 98 and my school's Gateway with Windows 2000 are very close to death. I have lots of school documents on both: mostly Word, Excel, and Publisher.

My classroom will be getting 3 new eMacs next month, plus, the teachers will be getting IBM laptops with Microsoft Office and Powerpoint around Nov. or Dec...don't know if they'll install Publisher on the teacher laptops.

I'm not a gamer, but since I'm a music teacher, I have a need for lots of music, and do a lot of photo and publishing work. I'd like to be able to move work freely between school and home.

My home-based business program is only available in Windows, so I need to consider that as well. The company mentioned something about Windows emulator software.

I've used our school's student iMacs for a couple of years, so I'm not completely foreign to Macs.

Please advise me with your recommendations. I've been looking at the 17" and 20" systems. My purchase needs to last me for several years.

Absolutely, get an iMac.

It sounds like it'll serve you well, especially since you will be using Macs at your job. Also, Parallels runs Windows XP very well, so that should enable you to do anything that requires Windows.

Get the 17", unless you REALLY need the 500 GB hard drive. The 20" screen is, in my opinion, a TAD too big, 17" is perfect for anywhere.

But definately, get a Mac. Also, if it's in your price range, get the 17" MacBook Pro, or a MacBook (MacBook Pro suggested b/c of the better video card). It'll help with mobility.

the back of our computer looks better than the front of theirs
