most monitors (LCD and CRT) are VGA these days, but DVI is moving up...

I was sort of surprised. My new 20.1 inch monitor (made by Westinghouse!?) has both.

my sony came with 2 cables and 2 plugs as well, it was crazy.

the best way to figure out what kind of plugs you have is to a) look in your user manual, and, b) go to wikipedia and search for vga and dvi

Oh, that's the older DVI connector that Apple used to use some time back, IIRC it was called ADC, or Apple Display Connector. I think you can get an adaptor for it to VGA, or perhaps a cable that will go to the newer DVI connector on the other end. My G4 Sawtooth had one of those too.

Edit: HERE is an ADC to DVI connector you can buy. HERE is Apples version. HERE is one by Belkin that I think I have here somewhere...

We had the ADC at my high school when I went there, I couldn't help but notice that those did not have a powercord. I think that the ADC powered the monitor aswell.

Ya, they did. That was one of the nice things about those is the Mac powered the display via ADC and saved on the number of cords...

Look about 3 posts up, I gave you three links to products. It's called, as I said in my earlier post, an ADC to DVI connector.
