iMac - Intel iMac worth it?

I've been looking at getting a 17" iMac core duo and upgrading it myself since I've got 400gb sata drives and ram laying around, I've heard its a pain to work on, anyone know if thats true?

I love my imac intel 20-inch . It is probly the best investment I have made this year.

Yeah, it's a pain to open. I'd box the drive in an external case and plug it in that way.

What about the memory? I can get the unit from one of our suppliers for $920, so I'm really thinking about it, but I need more than the stock 512mb

Memory is a Snap. There is a panel at the bottom. Take off two screws and pop in the ram. It's the Hard Drive that is a pain to replace and probably should not be done by the end user. I use External Fire Wire. Very fast.

The RAM is meant to be changed by the user.

Ya thats the only thing i dont like bout it is getting to the hard drive I had bought a new internal harddrive soon after I bought my intel but I returned it and have sence just bought external harddrives. Much easier.
