iMac - Help, Classic

I've been looking to try and play some old games such as Warcraft II and others. I tried using classic, but I think the game is too old. It can't read the CD once I start the game up.

This is why I want to install OS 9 and not classic on my Imac G5. I have tried taking the Imac installer (from the Imac G4) and installing OS 9 using Classic, but when I install it just installs over Classic.

I know it's possible to have two operating systems and to switch from the "start up disk" in system preferences, but i'm not sure if it is possible on a G5. Either way, can someone help me out? If it is possible, what do I need to do to install OS 9 and not classic?

Thanks

The iMac G5, and all newer PPC Mac machines for that matter, will no longer boot into OS9. You can only run 9 via the "classic" mode.

Alright thanks guys. Meanwhile though, what do I do about running things? Are there any updates or ways to get around the fact that applications won't read a CD that's in the drive, or is that simply not compatible in classic environment and the only way to play games that old is to get an older computer?

Thanks again

It just won't run unless you have Classic.

I know that. I have classic, and thus can run OS 9 Applications. What i'm saying is, this specific application runs but can't read the CD, thus it doesn't work to it's full extent.
Is there a way to get over this, or is classic faulty?

Thanks

ok, gotcha. Saw this http://forums.macosxhints.com/archiv...p/t-29166.html, this http://discussions.apple.com/thread....sageID=2688538, and this http://forums.macosxhints.com/archiv...p/t-22929.html

hope this helps. It doesn't look good unless you can rip the data onto the hard drive to bypass reading a cd.

I'm not sure if the Mac CD of WC2 has the DOS version packaged with it too, but if it does you may be able to dosbox it.

I haven't really attempted to play many games with DOSBOX, but the ones I've tried (Using my intel mac mini) have ran decently well.

edit: You're using OS 9, not OS X so my suggestion sounds like a totally irrevalent suggestion.
