    Logic Board Problems
If your G5 iMac is not running as it should:

    Unexpected shutdowns
    Video distortion

It could be the your logic board is fryed. To check that your logic board is healthy.

Open up your iMac (unscrew the 3 screws) If you look at the logic board you will see that there are a number of capacitors connected to it. ( These look like mini batteries) If any of them have a bulge on the top, then thats what your problem is and you need to take the machine to an apple store to get repaired.

Not only do some bulge, some will display brownish gunk on them.
I've seen my fair share of them on PC's. I've also replaced my fair share of them too.

My logic board was bad. It was a cold solder on a DIMM slot though.....
    Was very hard to diagnose.
