A music cd will not eject. I have tried all the advice in Finder:
'cd eject' > 'Ejecting a CD when all else fails' except the part about 'To eject a disc using firmware:' Restart the computer. When you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Command-Option-O-F keys. (The Command key has an Apple on it.) Release the keys when you see a white welcome screen. I don't see a white welcome screen and OSX loads as normal neye: iMac G5, OSX 10.4.6 |

Open Disk Utility (in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder), select the disc, and choose File > Eject. (TRIED) Choose Apple menu > Restart and hold down the mouse or trackpad button until the disc ejects. (TRIED) that is why I asked about the firmware solution. |

Well before you get snippy, you NEVER mentioned in your original post that you tried the mouse at restart. You said you tried all Finder solutions.
Perhaps someone else will help you, I'm done. schweb | community leader flickr » facebook » twitter » tumblr » google+ » about.me Mac-Forums: On Twitter | On Facebook | On Flickr

Command-Option-O-F keys (nowhere in Finder does it say that the Alt key is the Option key). I thought the instructions meant 'Command-Option' as the Apple key. We should know by instinct? And why not write it Command + Option + O + F ? Anyway, the cd ejected on the third 'eject cd' command try And (goodness am I grumpy today) my Keychain and internet logon still do not work even after posting about 10 begging (please help!!) mails. I'm posting clear instruction in the forum for future sufferers under 'CD Will Not Eject - Follow these Instructions' Last edited by Steve1; 06-13-2006 at 07:22 AM. |

For Operating System OS X 10.4 (that's what I have tried it on).
Maybe it works on other OS's as well. Try these steps one after the other. 1) Push the 'eject' symbol on the keyboard (top row, far right) 2) On the Desktop click on the Macintosh HD icon. Click on the 'eject' icon next to the listed CD. 3) Open Disk Utility in the Applications/Utilities folder (HD>Applications>Utilities), select the disc, and choose File > Eject. 4) Under the Apple logo drop-down menu, (top left corner of the screen) choose 'Restart' and hold down the mouse or trackpad button until the disc ejects. 5) Restart the computer. a) When you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Command + Option +O + F keys. (The Command key has an Apple on it, Option is the Alt key.) Release the keys when you see a white welcome screen. b) Type: eject cd push the Return key (Enter on some keyboards) wait for the 'ok' text c) if the cd does not eject after the 'ok', repeat b) you may have to do this a few times (I took 4) d) after (if) the cd ejects type: mac-boot push the Return key. OSX should then boot as normal. Post Operation Advice: Don't insert the same CD unless you (probably) want to go through it all again :-) Last edited by Steve1; 06-13-2006 at 07:48 AM. |

Nope it's not. I merged them together. Please read the Forum Courtesy thread in News and Announcements before posting again. Thanks!

Sorry, I did not realise I was being dis-courteous. I was just trying to put togeter a simple, easy to find, concise instruction sheet which was not there previously so people like myself did not have to scroll down lists of seperate threads to try to find (bits of scattered) instructions.
And, if I may say so, going to the trouble of putting my little guide together deserves a pat on the back rather than a slap on the wrist. (mwreoww, scratch, scratch). Am I the only one in a grumpy mood today ;-) |

As for creating a new thread, that is also considered bad forum courtesy. The effort you made is appreciated, but putting that in this thread would make it just as searchable as making a new thread. By keeping your thread all together the entire situation makes more sense and it will help keep things less cluttered. In the end it's actually a better help to the end user. schweb | community leader flickr » facebook » twitter » tumblr » google+ » about.me Mac-Forums: On Twitter | On Facebook | On Flickr

Good afternoon Schweb,
Did I really jump down your throat? Me? I wrote "As mentioned I tried everything under the eject advice in Finder". My humble apologies if you took that as being rude. I wrote that to save everbody time as it has happened that the original information had to be repeated more than once in 1 thread. |
