hi iam about to bye a imac g5 with built in isight whoooo the thing is iv never own'd a mac befor iv allways ran on microsoft window's xp's.
so i understand this is gona be a big change 4 me any way 2 cut a long story short when i was running my xp i did a lot of torrent download'ing altho i used norton internet sercurity plus ad aware i still got a small amount of adware/virus's. sooo basicly am just unsure whats the best way 2 go about protecting my new mac i understand a large amount of people will say why not just stop the torrent downloads but is that really a must do! neye: please helpppppppp charny x |

Run boot camp and get an external hard drive. This way you can use Windows to download your torrents and store them on an external drive. Your OS X partition will be fairly secure this way.
Edit: Oops, this only applies to an Intel iMac. Please disregard One option is to get an external Firewire hard drive, clone your main drive onto that, and use it for downloading; then reboot back onto your main drive and pull the files from the external drive. A bit of a stretch though...

it is true that there are no viruses for os x, but some virus protection is smart in case any are ever released, which I do not see happening since a virus would need your permission to install. you should also use AV software if you are networked with windows boxes or share files with windows. to the poster saying to install windows on an external hd using boot camp, don't do it.
