My Core Duo won't shut down or log out or re-start but can sleep. Can use terminal to kill processes but it is not an application causing the problem. The output is to a TV via S-Video and am using wireless keyboard via USB.
Appreciate any suggestions.

johninc is offline
unplugging it then restarting? it can't do tooo much damage I've done it on accident to my ibook (Don't ask how).

Sometimes external hardware can interfere. Try shutting off the TV before you shut down. If that doesn't work try to shutdown with the TV s-video disconnected. The next step is to reset the system management control. This will give you the info: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446.
